A leading Department of Health official has praised the home care industry – for improving the life of his elderly mother.

The official told a recent conference in York how his mother had spoken to many professionals about plans for her care.

But a home care agency discovered the one thing that would improve her life and wellbeing – her love for swimming.

‘She now goes swimming once a week – and then goes to have her hair done – thanks to domiciliary care,’ he told the conference.

·         The official has not been named here in order to protect the identity of his mother.
