Event: Kindling the Spark – Creativity in Dementia: Exploring Creative Approaches to Dementia Support.
Venue: University of Derby.
Details: Organised by The Trent Dementia Services Development Centre, this annual conference (this year in association with Innovations in Dementia) will focus on creativity and well being. People with dementia, writers, therapists and practitioners will deliver a diverse range of workshops and presentations including the written and spoken word, film, drama, dance and music, alongside the development of innovative services and practice.

Details: Paul Burstow, MP, new Minister of State for Care Services has been invited to give the keynote address on his vision for home care services and the issues and challenges facing home care today. Cynthia Bower, Chief Executive of CQC will address delegates to talk about the next steps in the new regulatory process. Jeff Jerome, National Director for Social Care Transformation, Department of Health will give an update on the Personalisation agenda and to review changing purchasing and commissioning patterns.

Event: UKHCA Annual Scotland Conference.
Venue: Hilton Glasgow Grosvenor, Glasgow.
Details: Cllr Douglas Yates from COSLA will talk about the challenges facing Scottish Local
Government and care at home services. Other speakers include: Anna Fowlie, Chief Executive of the Scottish Social Services Council and Henry Simmons, Chief Executive of Alzheimer Scotland, who will talk about the launch of the Scottish Government’s National Dementia Strategy. Dr Simon Cuthbert-Kerr, Head of the Adult Protection Legislation Team, will give an update on the implementation of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme, due to be introduced in November. Mike Martin, Director of the Joint Improvement Team will give a presentation on a programme to look at reshaping care for older people in Scotland. Mark Hazelwood, Director of the Scottish Partnership for Palliative Care to talk about the role of the Partnership and give an overview of the palliative care policy environment in Scotland.

Venue: Wellington Park Hotel, Belfast.
Details: Michael McGimpsey, Minister for Health, Social Services and Public Safety will give keynote address on the issues and challenges facing home care providers today. Dermot Parsons of RQI will give an update on the year’s inspections and to outline any improvements that domiciliary care organisations can make to their practice.
Nicola Fisher, Principal Statistician with the Community Information Branch is to present some of the key findings from their recent domiciliary care surveys. The Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) has a new Northern Ireland Practice Manager, Dr Shirley Ewart-Boyle who will give a presentation about the dissemination of SCIE’s good practice material that would be of interest to domiciliary care organisations. Janis Blackburn, Head of Standards and Qualifications at Skills for will talk about QCF and the implications and changes that will take place within the domiciliary care field in Northern Ireland. Brendan Johnson, Chief Executive of the Northern Ireland Social Care Council will give an update on registration and an overview of current work.

Event: UKHCA Annual Wales Conference.
Venue: Metropole Hotel, Llandrindod Wells.
Details: Gwenda Thomas, Deputy Minister for Social Services is to open the conference with a keynote address on the current status of domiciliary care in Wales. Beverlea Frowen from the WLGA will give an overview on the local authority charging cap and will look at the implications of this on domiciliary care. Bruce McLernon, President of ADSS Cymru, will outline how partnership working and workforce planning can assist organisations to develop services within a restricted funding environment.
The new Chair of Care Council for Wales (CCW), Arwell Ellis Owen is to give an overview of future work of CCW, to outline some of the key findings of the Care at Home project and review how this might affect domiciliary care in Wales. Steve Vaughan, from the Office of Director of Social Services will explain the new Commissioning Framework and its implications for domiciliary care. Sue Lloyd-Selby from Value Wales will demonstrate the new Social Care Procurement Route Planner and explain the importance of this for domiciliary care.

Event: Supporting Older People: Best Practice in the Prevention and Management of Elder Abuse.

Details: This unique one day conference offers delegates the opportunity to explore the role of front line practitioners in supporting older people, recognising signs of abuse and how to deal with it effectively through the right procedures and empowerment.
